Unscheduled Power Cuts in Hyderabad

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Owing to increase in demand from the agriculture sector coupled with a slight rise in day temperatures, the Central Power Distribution Company Limited (CPDCL) is imposing unscheduled power cuts in Greater Hyderabad, especially, in the surrounding areas of the city.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Official sources admitted that there was a gap between requirement and allocation of power mainly due to rise in demand from the agricultural sector in rural areas. The demand for power has shot up to 5,200 to 5,300 MW in the past few days in the CPDCL jurisdiction as against the availability of 4,800 MW. In Greater Hyderabad region, demand has gone up to 1,800 MW per day as against the availability of 1,500 MW. &quot;Authorities have been imposing power cuts for one to two hours unofficially in the name of some technical problems and breakdowns,&quot; said J Narender Goud, of Bowenpally. On Friday, complaints of power cuts were reported from Secunderabad, Tarnaka, Uppal, Golconda and L B Nagar.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Sources said official load shedding is likely to begin soon and might continue until June due to an expected increase in power consumption. During last summer, the power cuts ranged from two to four hours.
