MC plans to spend INR 400 crore on major Roads, Internal Roads cry for repair

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Though the municipal corporation plans to spend more than INR 400 crore for widening and improving three major roads of the city, it has failed to pay attention to the broken roads in the internal parts of the city.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Big potholes on these broken roads are not only causing inconvenience to commuters but are also leading to accidents.&nbsp;</span></span></span><span style="color:rgb(105, 105, 105); font-family:arial; font-size:11px; line-height:1.6em">Although trees are being cut to widen the Pakhowal Road, it is lying broken in many places.</span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&ldquo;The Pakhowal Road is broken in many places and needs urgent repair. We suffer due to the huge potholes, but the MC is sleeping over the matter. Whenever potholes are filled or repaired, they start breaking again every time it rains,&rdquo; said Sarabjit Singh, a resident.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Narinder Kumar Kala, a councillor, said many city roads were broken and needed to be repaired. However, instead of repairing these roads, new projects were being planned. &ldquo;There is need to repair various roads, including Club Road and Dr Likhi Road. Due to potholes on these roads, waterlogging is also a major problem,&rdquo; he added.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Dugri Road has also started developing potholes, while the road from Dugri towards Himmat Singh Nagar needs to be repaired.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">While these internal roads lie neglected, MC has proposed to widen the Ferozepur Road from Jagraon Bridge to Sidhwan Canal, along with construction of three underpasses, and improvement of Old GT Road from Sherpur Chowk to Jalandhar Bypass and Chandigarh Road from Samrala Chowk to MC limits.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">When contacted, mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria said, &ldquo;We cannot construct the roads right now due to low temperature.
