Elevated Road to solve Rajmarg traffic issue

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has decided to revive an old plan of an elevated road over the three Km Rajmarg Road that runs from railway station to Chowk Bazaar to solve the daily traffic jam problem.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&quot;We need another structure that gives direct access to vehicles to and from Nanpura and Rander to Bhagal and railway station. A feasibility study of the project is being carried out,&quot; SMC standing committee chairman Rajesh Desai said.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&quot;There would be problem in shifting some underground and overhead networks of water, drainage, sewerage, electricity and gas. Some structures on both sides of Rajmarg need also to be demolished,&quot; an officer from SMC&#39;s bridge cell said.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Over two lakh two-wheelers, one lakh four-wheelers and 50,000 three-wheelers pass through Rajmarg daily between 10 am to 8 pm.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The project was shelved over two years ago on the ground that it merged with BRTS. The project of having an eight metre wide road one way at a height of seven metre over the existing road was to be completed in three years at an estimated cost of INR 75 crore.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&quot;The basic work for an elevated road has begun. However, it would take some time before the project is launched.
