Trend of Stock of Major Petroleum Products -Part I

All India Opening Stocks of major Petroleum products of LPG, MS, SKO and BSD as on 01.01.2014 is mentioned below:

Stock of four sensitive petroleum products viz. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Petrol (MS), Kerosene (SKO) and Diesel (HSD) is analysed on fortnightly basis to indicate the level of cushion the country has, to meet unforeseen shortfall in supply and to meet the consumption requirements of the country. Stock measured by days' cover of the products is an indicator of demand supply.

The main observations for the sensitive products, in marketing regions (i.e. North, North-East, East, West, and South) are outlined below:

  1. Southern region has highest days' cover of LPG (7 days)
  2. Northern region has highest days' cover of MS (14 days)
  3. Western region has highest days' cover of SKO (22 days)
  4. Northern and Western regions have highest days' cover of HSD (9 days)

On All-India stock basis, among the four major products, SKO has the highest All-India cover of 25 days. 

The stock as on 01.01.2014 has been compared with that of the previous month and last three years :
