SC seeks status of land allocated to RIL in Haryana

The Supreme Court Thursday sought a reply from the Haryana government over the status of the land acquisition and allocation for the Reliance Haryana SEZ (Special Economic Zone). Around 1,383 acres of land in Gurgaon had been earmarked for the SEZ for Mukesh Ambani-promoted Reliance Industries Ltd.

A Bench led by Chief Justice of India P Sathasivam called for the latest status report after it was observed during the hearing that the Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation had not filed its response to a PIL by politician Kuldip Bishnoi, who had challenged the central as well as Haryana SEZ Act. The court order came as senior counsel Amarender Saran submitted that Reliance had withdrawn from the project and land for the proposed SEZ had been returned to the state.
