Ahead of summit, 10 roads get lucky

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Ahead of the Partnership Summit 2014 hosted by the city from Monday to Wednesday (January 27 to 29), with WTO Director General Roberto Azevedo and dignitaries from around the world in attendance, 10 city roads have received face-lifts on a war footing. Work on the 35 Km stretch has been completed by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike in just four days.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">BBMP officials met on January 18 and identified 10 roads for the face-lift. These 10 roads, where BBMP took up kerb painting and maintenance of footpaths, are Raj Bhavan Road to GPO (via Chalukya Circle); Race Course Road, from Chalukya Circle to Shivananda Circle; Sankey Tank Road, from Raj Bhavan to Windsor Manor Circle; Bellary Road, from Windsor Manor Circle to CBI Junction Underpass; Kumara Krupa Road; the road in front of Vidhana Soudha; Palace Road; Chowdiah Road; Ambedkar Road; and Vittal Mallya Road.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Officials also said asphalting has been taken up for Palace Road, Cubbon Road, and Bellary Road (Windsor Manor Circle to CBI Junction Underpass) by spending around INR 5 crore.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana, who is also the chairman of the sub-committee for city beautification, has instructed officials to finish the pending works.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The Commissioner said, &quot;We had taken up reconditioning of the footpaths of all major roads connecting the airport to the venue and in and around Vidhana Soudha, High Court, Cubbon Park, and MG Road. Pothole filling and reconditioning of Richmond Road, Infantry Road, Ali Askar Road, Race Course Road, Shivananda Circle, Anandrao Circle, Chalukya Circle, and Brigade Road, which connects tourist places and commercial places in the city have also been taken care of.&quot;</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Lakshminaryana has also asked national highway officials to clean up the 250 metre long road along the Hebbal flyover to the National Highway. BDA has been asked to take up filling up of potholes and reconditioning of roads from KIMCO Junction to Nayandahalli Circle. BWSSB officials have assured the Commissioner that there will be no leakage of water and sewerage on the roads during the three days of the summit.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The summit is being organised jointly by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Government of Karnataka, and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">According to officials, the summit has confirmation on participation by trade ministers and dignitaries from across the world. Countries like Australia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Cambodia, Canada, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Ghana, Indonesia, Iraq, Japan, Macedonia, Malta, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Namibia, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Switzerland, Tanzania, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, USA, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, besides officials from various multilateral organisations like the International Trade Centre, and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, would be represented. India would be represented by Union Commerce Minister Anand Sharma and state Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The event is organised on the theme &#39;Emerging Global Value Chains: Building Partnerships&#39;, and is aimed at attracting investors. It will provide a platform for Indian industry to interact with world statesmen, business leaders, academia, policy-makers, and media leaders.
