Work on 12 Traffic Islands to begin before February 15: Mayor

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Mayor Yatin Wagh on Tuesday assured the Confederation of Real Estate Developers&#39; Association of India (CREDAI), Nashik that work of 12 of the 37 traffic islands in the city will be initiated before February 15.&nbsp;</span></span></span><span style="color:rgb(105, 105, 105); font-family:arial; font-size:11px; line-height:1.6em">Wagh had organised a meeting with Credai and civic officials to discuss the reasons behind the delay in the construction/development of the city&#39;s islands and find solutions to it.</span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">For over six months, the members of Credai had several meetings with the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) official, got the plan for the islands ready and made necessary changes in it. It was expected that the work of the first traffic island would start this month.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">During the meeting, the members of Credai discussed all the problems with the mayor, who assured them the issues would be cleared at the earliest.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Wagh said, &quot;Six months ago, Credai decided to develop traffic islands of the city, but several changes in the plan and other obstacles delayed the work. The NMC is constructing 91 km road for the forthcoming Kumbh mela. We could have also constructed the islands but maintenance is a problem. We have called this joint meeting to understand and solve the problems,&quot; he said.&nbsp;</span></span></span><span style="color:rgb(105, 105, 105); font-family:arial; font-size:11px; line-height:1.6em">He asked the builders to submit the plans that were finalized.</span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Kiran Chavan, president of Credai, said, &quot;Just like Bangalore is known as the city of gardens, we want Nashik to be known as the city of traffic islands. We are the stakeholders and the NMC is ready to give us the place. However, we are unable to start developing the islands due to coordination problems with the respective departments. There are electrical poles, pipelines etc., near the islands. At the island that I am developing, shifting of an electrical pole is delaying the work.&quot;</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Wagh asked the members to contact the concerned official, following which Chavan asked for a common coordinator of the rank of executive engineer. Executive engineer P B Chavan assured the builders that if the officials were informed beforehand, all the obstacles could be cleared. Thereafter, Wagh appointed him as the chief coordinator.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">On Credai&#39;s insistence, the mayor also agreed to coordinate with the traffic department.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">City engineer Sunil Khune said, &quot;If we assume that the code of conduct for the elections will be enforced on February 15, the development of the islands should begin before that.&quot;&nbsp;</span></span></span><span style="color:rgb(105, 105, 105); font-family:arial; font-size:11px; line-height:1.6em">Credai member Sunil Kotwal said the agreement with the NMC should have the plan submission, plan approval and beginning and completion of the work. &quot;Let us keep a target of three months for completing our work,&quot; he said.</span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Wagh also instructed the electrical department to shift the electric pole in the island which is being developed by Kiran Chavan.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Khune said the link road between the outer and inner ring road near Metro Zone on Pathardi road will be very big with cycle track and road dividers.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Source-On Request</span></span></span></p>
