Trend of Stock of Major Petroleum Products in the country - Part I

Stock of four sensitive petroleum products viz. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Petrol (MS), Kerosene (SKO) and Diesel (HSD) is analysed on fortnightly basis to indicate the level of cushion the country has, to meet unforeseen shortfall in supply and to meet the consumption requirements of the country. Stock measured by days' cover of the products is an indicator of demand supply.

All India Stocks of LPG, Petrol (MS), SKO and Diesel (HSD)

The detailed information on gross tankage, ullage, stock and days' cover for the sensitive products, in marketing regions (i.e. North, North-East, East, West, and South) are outlined below:

  1. Southern region has highest days' cover of LPG (10 days)
  2. Northern, Eastern and Southern regions have highest days' cover of MS (12 days)
  3. Western region has highest days' cover of SKO (24 days)
  4. Eastern region has highest days' cover of HSD (12 days)

On All-India stock basis, among the four major products, SKO has the highest All-India cover of 26 days.

The stock as on 01.01. 2013 has been compared with that of the previous month and last three years:

# Tankage for MS, HSD, SKO, been taken as on 01.04.2013.

LPG tankage is as on 01.07.2013. 'Only 90% of LPG tankage can be utilized.

Analysis on All India Stock Position as on 01.11.2013: Comparison with 01.10.2013:

  1. Stocks of LPG remained the same as compared with 01.10.2013
  2. Stocks of MS were lower by 1% as compared with 01.10.2013
  3. Stocks of SKO and HSD were lower by 11% and 12% respectively as compared with 01.10.2013. The stocks of SKO and HSD decreased due to planned shutdowns of several major units of Mathura refinery from 29.09.2013 (for around 45 to 50 days) and CPCL refinery during Sep-Oct 2013 (for 24 days)

The stock figure of LPG is inclusive of "Stock on wheels" and MS, SKO, and HSD are of "Stock in Hand."
