AAI accepted LMRC proposal but offered a separate land just before the runway on the same road.

LMRC MD Rajiv Agarwal had earlier written to AAI director asking for land on east side of Kanpur Road which remains unutilised. But the authority has offered 15 acres of land on the west side of the road. The suggestion is being considered by LMRC.

On Wednesday, LMRC sent officials to survey the proposed area and measure its suitability for construction of yard. The corporation would soon send a letter to DMRC to analyse the suitability of this land and give its nod for construction yard. LMRC officials said they are trying for a quick approval from DMRC so that the work can be started soon.

The yard would be used for construction, fabrication and storage purpose of basic infrastructures required for Metro rail project. LMRC would take this land for about 3 to 4 years on lease from AAI for this work. The land would be returned to AAI after the completion of work. AAI has also asked for rent from LMRC for lending its land.

LMRC would construct more yards in the city depending on requirement and availability of land. Besides approval for the construction yard site, DMRC's response is also awaited on whether it would take up the responsibility of designing, constructing and equipping the service on turnkey mode.

Two agencies are in the fray for Metro project- DMRC and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL).
