After a gap of two-three months, the focus of district administration has returned to the maintenance of the basic infrastructure, especially roads.

The DM, Pranjal Yadav, on Wednesday, made it clear that the drives regarding improvement of roads have not been put at backburner. On Wednesday afternoon Yadav inspected roads from Cantonment Roadways bus depot to Rajghat via Andhrapul and Chowkaghat Crossings.

Following his inspection the DM informed that the two lane road constructed on the eastern side of Cantonment depot-Chowkaghat flyover has become ready and can be opened for vehicular movement any day. This lane would be mainly used by the roadways buses for movement between Cantt depot and Chowkaghat in order to keep the two-lane road on the western side of the flyover spared for the movement of other vehicles.

The road between Chowkaghat and Rajghat would be also widened by removing the encroachments by timber traders, motor garage operators and others; he said further adding that the PWD has been asked to reconstruct the road on both the sides of road dividers on this route.

He said that the weather conditions have also improved and agencies working for road repair and constructions have been directed to expedite the works. In the second half of 2013 the local denizens got a pleasant surprise in the form of works of widening of some prominent roads in the city.

The district magistrate Pranjal Yadav showed interest in ending congestion and bottlenecks on the roads which led to creation of service lanes along Pandeypur flyover, widening of Pandeypur, Bhojubir Crossing, Lanka-Naria Road and many other roads.

Though, the drives created problems for some people for a short duration but the improvement in the traffic scenario, at last brought smile to many faces.

The positive cooperation of people was evident when the demolition of some portion of buildings on Rathyatra-Mahmoorganj-Manduadih road was done for converting it into a four-lane road. Majority of building owners demolished the portions of their buildings voluntarily. Only a few opposed the drive and some of them also moved the court against it.

The work of road widening on this route is still in progress. But, demarcation of buildings along Englishialine-Maldahiya-Lahurabir-Maidagin Road by some agencies, without giving it in knowledge of the DM, irked the traders' fraternity who started opposing the drive in October and November, 2013. Apart from these other reasons like festival duties compelled the officials to postpone the drives for widening and betterment of roads.

Source-On Request
