Annoor Road to be revamped soon

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The travel woes of the residents at Annoor near Thirumala are getting addressed after a long wait of around 20 years. The PWD has shortlisted contractors for road maintenance of the stretch, which is presently in a dilapidated state. The tender documents were opened on Friday.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The road at Annoor was not renovated for the last 20 years. Commuting through the road was a nightmare for the locals. The denizens had been indicting the city administrators and department officials for the damaged roads.</span></span></span> <span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Crossing every hurdle in tendering, the PWD published the notification on January 1.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&quot;Many contractors have submitted their bid for undertaking the maintenance work on the stretch. After a close scrutiny, the tender will be awarded for the eligible one,&quot; said a senior official attached to PWD (roads and bridges). The estimated cost of the work is pegged at INR 33.5 lakh.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Demanding urgent intervention, the locals, irrespective of political inclination, formed an action council, &#39;Annoor Action Council&#39;. The action council had also organized several protest marches as well as sit-in protests demanding the same.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&quot;Several minor and major accidents had occurred at the spot injuring more than 50 people, including women. Auto drivers refuse to ply through the area citing the poor condition roads. Initially, it was said that the government had allocated INR 50 lakh for the project. We don&#39;t understand why it is getting delayed. We were told that even contractors are hesitant to undertake the works,&quot; said Thirumala Anil, secretary of the action council.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The auto drivers at Thirumala decided not to ply on the Annoor road as many of them suffered backache after commuting on the dilapidated road.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Source-On Request</span></span></span></p>
