Flyover half done, but Land still an issue

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The hardships faced by thousands who commute between Bangalore North and East on the Outer Ring Road near Hennur junction is not likely to end in the near future. That&rsquo;s because the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) is yet to acquire the land required to complete the flyover here.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">T Sham Bhat, BDA commissioner, said, &ldquo;We have now decided to purchase the 30 guntas required to complete the flyover instead of acquiring it in the normal process. The land owners are demanding INR 8,000 per Sq. ft. and we are offering INR 4,500 per Sq. ft.&rdquo;</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Officials in the engineering department of the BDA say the project can be completed within three months if the land is handed over to them.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The BDA awarded the flyover work at a cost of INR 58.4 crore to Nagarjuna Construction Company. Work began in 2010 with a promise to complete it by the end of 2012. The BDA was supposed to hand over the land to the company. Though more than three years have passed since the work began, the BDA is yet to hand over the land to the company.
