Road Widening work to begin soon

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The widening of the stretch between Dwarka and Datta Mandir on the Nashik-Pune highway, the arterial road connecting the city with the Nashik Road railway station, will begin within a fortnight.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&quot;We were waiting for clearance form the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) to remove nearly 150 trees, which includes transplantation, chopping trees which cannot be shifted and planting trees in their place. Since we have not received permission from the civic body sp far, we will begin with the work of shifting of the utilities before proceeding with the works of laying of lanes,&quot; a senior official from the National Highways (NH) division of the Public Works Department (PWD) said.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The Ministry Of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) had sanctioned the INR 8.5 crore for laying of an additional lane on either side of the existing four-lane Dwarka-Datta Mandir stretch. No flyover or underpass has been sanctioned at any of the busy junctions, including Kathe Galli, Fame Theatre and Upanagar Naka.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The work that will be carried out once clearance is given includes laying of additional lanes on the extremes of the current four-lane highway and raising the median up to a height of two feet to prevent vehicles crossing the divider to avoid accidents. The total length of the road which will be widened will be 5.5 Km.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Having completed the tender process, the department is all set to being the construction of the additional lane, for which, it will have to relocate three temples at Kathe Galli, Icchapurti Ganesh Mandir near Gandhinagar and Mhasoba temple, Nehrunagar.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&quot;We have talked to stake holders of all the three temples and sought their help in the programme. Even they have consented to shift once the widening begins,&quot; the officer said, adding that sanction for the two-foot high grade separator was awaited.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The MoRTH has also sanctioned INR 39 crore for the widening project on Nashik-Peth road. The ministry has granted INR 39 crore for widening of 15 Km of the section of the Nashik-Peth-Gujarat border and INR 13 crore for asphalting 16 Km of road in the section.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">&quot;The widening of the existing Nashik-Peth-Pardi road, now called the NH-848, will only improve connectivity with Gujarat as this road provides access to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway,&quot; Nashik Lok Sabha MP Sameer Bhujbal said.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Source-On Request</span></span></span></p>
