UPA on war footing to better highways record

UPA-II seems to be on an overdrive to improve its track record on highways vis-a-vis the NDA's with Lok Sabha polls closing in. The road transport and highways ministry has moved a cabinet note for notifying about 7,200 km of state and district roads as national highways. This would enable the government to go to polls, claiming an addition of at least 17,000 km in the NH network in the past five years against NDA's 23,800 km.
