Fatal collision closes Highway 402

<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">An intense snow squall Thursday morning has resulted in a fatal crash on Highway 402 near Oil Heritage Road in Lambton County. At approximately 8:30 a.m. the Lambton County OPP began receiving a number of collision calls involving multiple vehicles between Mandaumin Road and Oil Heritage Road in the westbound lanes of the highway. Fire ighters were called to the scene west of Oil Heritage Road to deal with a vehicle on fire.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Lambton County OPP have released very little information regarding the fatal crash other then to state the technical traffic collision investigators (TTCI) and mobile command post from OPP West Region headquarters have been called in to deal with the situation.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Police are asking motorists to avoid Highway 402 which is closed from Mandaumin Road to Oil Heritage Road as a result of this crash and a secondary crash west of Mandaumin Road, also in the westbound lanes of the highway.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Elgin County OPP also reported whiteout conditions along Highway 401 with gusting winds and snow hampering visibility and driving conditions after the squall blew through the area. Oxford OPP have closed the westbound lanes, and one eastbound lane of Highway 401 at Cedar Creek due to multiple crashes and poor visibility.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">The South-West Oxford fire department and the Oxford County EMS are on the scene for the crash and the westbound lanes will remain closed, said Oxford OPP in a media release. OPP are encouraging motorist to stay off the road Police are advising motorists that do get stuck or stranded to remain in their vehicle for safety and warmth after ensuring the exhaust pipe is clear of snow.</span></span></span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:11px"><span style="font-family:arial">Source-On Request</span></span></span></p>
