INR 304 Cr R&B Funds for 16 Radial Roads

Funds for laying the balance 16 of the 33 radial roads (RRs) in the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) limits, costing INR 304.90 crore, will be taken up under the capital budget of the roads and buildings department instead of with funds from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Radial roads, running to a total length of 179.5 km, are meant to provide connectivity between the Inner Ring Road and the Outer Ring Road for easing traffic congestion of the 158-km-long ORR, about 122 km long road has been built and opened to traffic. Work on the stretch from Shamirpet to Pedda Amberpet is in progress and the main carriageway is expected to be completed by this month-end.

HMDA had initially proposed to take up work on the 16 RR roads with money saved out of JICA funds but the central and state governments suggested that the savings should not be utilised for radial roads. Instead, the state government came forward to fund laying of the balance roads by provding budget from the R&B department.

Due to fluctuation in the exchange rates in the international market, a substantial amount was saved from JICA funds which HMDA wanted to utilise for the radial roads. Speaking to Express, HMDA officials said eight of the 16 radial roads  will be taken up by the R&B department and eight by the HMDA. Four units have been established for the purpose. Each unit will take up work on four roads.

The HMDA, through Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL), will build eight radial roads from Panjagutta on IRR (Tellapur) to Edulanagulapally at ORR (7 km); Moosapet to BHEL Jn (IRR Jn on NH-9) which is about 7.40 km; Secunderabad Cantonment Junction to Old Alwal (11.60 km); Survey of India to Medipally on NH 202 (12 km); Nagole Bridge to Gourelly on ORR (14 km); Mansoorabad to Thattiannavarain Crossroad (4.80 km); Nagole Bridge to Singaram on ORR (14 km); and Taranagar (Chandanagar) to Davaraguda on ORR (8.90 km).

The roads to be laid by R&B will be Nanal Nagar junction to HCU Depot (3.95 km); Paradise Junction (Bowenpally Junction) to Godrej Y Junction (2 km); Patny Junction to Shamirpet on ORR (17.75 km); Habsiguda to Bogarum Junction on ORR (19 km); Kanchanbagh (Kharmanghat Jn) to Nadargul (Adibatla) on ORR (15.50 km); Midhani Junction to Pahadisherif (18.30 km); HCU Depot to Vattinagulapally on ORR (14.30 km); and Nizampet Crossroad to Kazipalle on ORR (9 km).
