High Court serves notice on Reliance for KG-D6

The Andhra Pradesh High Court served notices to Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Industries, the Central Bureau of Investigation, Director General of Hydrocarbons and the state and union governments in response to a public interest litigation that accused Reliance of hoarding gas from the Krishna-Godavari basin. On Monday, the court admitted the petition filed by Palem Srikanth Reddy, convenor of Jana Palana Party.

Reddy, who is also a founder of information technology firm Four Soft, has sought a "fair share" of gas and royalties from the KG Basin for Andhra Pradesh. The petitioner has sought a detailed probe by CBI into the claims of Reliance Industries on dwindling production from the KGD6 block. Reddy also accused the operator of the gas fields in the basin of hurting the economy by forcing many gasbased power plants to close down. Reliance Industries denies any wrong-doing.
