Modi Pushed for Gas Price Hike

Aam Admi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said a senior bureaucrat from Gujarat told him that Narendra Modi had recommended a hike in LPG price from US$ 4 to US$ 16 per unit though the cost of production is around US$ 1. At a rally here Kejriwal said, “After Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily decided to hike the gas price from US $4 to US $8, I thought Modi, who is being projected as the most pro-people and proactive politician in the country, will do something to prevent it. I wrote a letter to him to clarify his stand on the proposed hike. However, he did not respond to my letter. When I visited Gujarat, a senior bureaucrat told me that Modi had recommended that the gas price be hiked to US$ 16.”

The previous NDA government had “arbitrarily” allotted gas blocks to Reliance Industries in 2000 and the subsequent UPA government raised the gas price ‘’to favour him’’. Now, Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani is profiting at the cost of the common man, he said.

“Therefore, I had to force the Delhi police to register an FIR against Ambani and others,” he added. While claiming that both the BJP and the Congress did not want to file an FIR against Ambani, Kejriwal said, “they acted as if an FIR cannot be lodged against Ambani. I was wondering if he is the Constitution of this country.” Kejriwal said the gas scam itself is worth over `54,000 crore and there are many such scams. Those involved in those scams should be sent to where they deserve to go, he added.
