Roads clogged as National capital soaks in festive spirit

Traffic jams were reported from different parts of the capital on Monday due to Baisakhi celebrations at gurdwaras. Officials said they had taken steps to keep the traffic flow normal, but the snarls were caused due to heavy traffic near the religious institutions. According to police, heavy traffic was reported near Bangla Sahib, Sis Ganj and Majnu ka Tila gurdwaras. Snarls were also reported at Karol Bagh and parts of west Delhi as religious processions passed through these areas. Jams were also reported from south Delhi as devotees parked vehicles outside gurdwaras in the area. Traffic teams led by senior district officials were deployed to keep a check on the traffic situation.

Snarls were also reported from both the carriageways of Outer Ring Road as devotees gathered at the Majnu Ka Tila gurdwara. Some of them even parked their vehicles in the main carriageway, and walked to the gurdwara. Several lanes in the area were also used for distributing food by the devotees leading to the snarls.

Traffic officials added that following the jams most of the traffic was diverted through Inner Ring Road between Changi Ram Akhara and Wazirabad Bridge via Upper Bela Road, Sham Nath Marg and Chaudhary Fateh Singh Marg and Timarpur. The roads around Dalit Prerna Sthal in Noida also witnessed long queues of vehicles because of Ambedkar Jayanti.
