People's Liberation Front of India activists kill Road Project supervisor

Suspected rebels of People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) killed the supervisor of a road construction site at Piding village on Khunti-Chaibasa border and burnt a vehicle late on Sunday night. However, this time the rebels did not leave any poster at the murder site. Chaibasa SP Narendra K Singh said: "Investigation has started in the case. The place is very far away. My forces have reached there. But no obvious reason behind the murder is known yet." Chaibasa, which is considered a stronghold of rebels, had peaceful polls on April 17 and a large number of people defied Maoists' call for election boycott to turn up at booths.

Police are suspecting that the rebels did this after polling to spread terror among villagers of Sonua, which is dominated by the rebels. It is also likely that the violence has been carried out to show their presence and power in the area.

"It (the murder) is all a mystery. Let us investigate the case then only I would be able to speak," said Singh.

A group of ultras arrived at the site Sunday night and killed Sudhir Kumar Jha, a middle aged man, who was at the site. They also burnt down the JCB machine parked nearby, said a police officer. The company is constructing a road between Bandu and Piding villages under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in Chaibasa. "Our sources have told us that PLFI is behind the incident. No demand for levy was made. The construction company is being contacted," said Chaibasa SP Singh. Police have started a combing operation in the area.
