Delhi-Jaipur Highway toll pact can't be annulled: Minister

Toll collection as per the concessionary agreement already entered for Delhi-Jaipur Highway cannot be annulled as there could be litigation, the Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, Krishan Pal Gujjar, said.

Responding to such a demand while on a visit to Kot Putli in Rajastan on Saturday evening, Gujjar said there could not be a legal discontinuity even though the Government has changed. He was visiting a spot on a flyover on the Highway at Kot Putli, where there had been some damage leading to traffic jams and diversions, said a release by the Road Transport Highways Ministry on Sunday.

Gujjar said the responsibility for the damaged flyover would be fixed based on the enquiry report to be submitted by the Centre for Road Research Institute, which had been asked to conduct the enquiry and submit a report by the July 10.

The Minister also assured local people that repairs to service lanes would be done in the next two days to ease the traffic and also ordered all the flyovers ready to be opened in the next three or four days. Gujjar assured people that the National Highways Authority of India would complete all the works within a year “even if the contractor does not finish works by that time”.
