Power generation restored as Coal supplies Improve

Power generation in AP Genco plants has been restored to normalcy after one day’s interruption due to shortage of coal.

AP Genco Managing Director K.Vijayanand that AP Genco has made arrangements for imported coal of four lakh tonnes and another 1.5 lakh tonnes of raw coal. The general requirement for one day is about 55,000 tonnes per day. The available coal is adequate for 10 days.

In the meanwhile, additional supplies will also be arranged to run the plants normally. The supply of coal was impacted due to lower supplies. Referring to one unit impacted by tube leakage in Vijajaywada thermal station, he said efforts are underway to restore the generation. In the case of Rayalaseema Thermal Power Station, all the units are functioning normally, barring one unit which has been shut down for maintenance.

The generation at Rayalaseema plant was partly impacted due to shortage of coal. This has now been restored. Asked about the status of the AP move to revise power purchase agreements with Discoms, he said that the Government stand was made clear and it remains the same now.

Meanwhile, a meeting called for by Southern Region Load Dispatch Centre, Bangalore between the Chief Engineers of two states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh generation companies is slated to be held on Tuesday.
