Business units told to get Licence for e-way access

The highway administration court has directed the concessionaire of Delhi-Gurgaon expressway to issue show cause notice to over 124 commercial establishments that use the entry and exit roads of the 27.7km speedway without the requisite licence.

There are hundreds of commercial units on either side of the expressway but notices are to be only served on those that have access points exclusively on the entry and exit lanes and are not connected by any other road. A licence for having an access point on the highway is granted by the ministry of road transport and highways through the NHAI for a fee, which ranges from INR 1.5-3 lakh.

According to sources, such a move had been on the cards for six years, but the matter was deferred as the NHAI was fighting a legal battle against the erstwhile concessionaire of the expressway. Now, the highway authority wants prompt action by the new concessionaire - Millennium City Expressway Pvt Ltd. "When we have appointed a new concessionaire, we thought it appropriate to sort this matter out as well," said A K Sharma, highway administrator.
