Cairn India's Ravva block exceeds FY14 output targets

The Ravva block offshore Andhra Pradesh, operated by Cairn India, exceeded production targets in FY14. Gas production from the block was 25 Percent  above target and sales were 48 Percent  above target, shows data available with the petroleum ministry.

In FY14, Ravva fields’ average production was 27,386 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd), with a plant uptime of 99.8 Percent. The higher production levels achieved have been attributed to better well performance on sustained water injection.

Cairn India, with 22.5 Percent participating interest, is the operator of the block with ONGC, Videocon and Ravva Oil being the other joint venture partners. During 2013-14, Ravva sold daily average of 20,466 barrels of oil per day (bopd) and 36 million standard cubic feet per day (mscfd) of natural gas. CPCL and MRPL are the refineries picking Ravva crude, while GAIL is the nominated customer for gas.

Cairn India’s production operations at the offshore Krishna-Godavari Basin are centred on the Ravva oil and gas field, lying off the coast of Andhra Pradesh, in water depths of up to 80 metres.

In March 2014, Cairn India commenced the fifth phase of Ravva development drilling using a mat supported jack-up rig. This in-fill drilling campaign, based on 4D seismic surveys, consists of drilling seven wells. The first well identified unswept oil as predicted by the 4D seismic survey — this demonstrates the company’s ability to successfully apply high end seismic technology.

The in-fill drilling campaign and prudent reservoir management are expected to result in overall recovery factor of over 50 Percent, which is world class performance by any standard.

“Results from the adoption of established technologies such as 4D seismic at the Ravva block were encouraging, delivering tremendous value in terms of interpretation of internal reservoir structure and identification of depleted and unswept zones, leading to further development activity,” Cairn India said in a statement.
