UP Govt approves bridge between Afeem Kothi, Juhi

The state government had agreed to a proposal of elevated bridge between Afeem Kothi and Juhi prepared by the Bridge Corporation. The proposed bridge could be one-kilometre long and 10.5 metres wide. It would be completed in three years. Once completed, it would be another link between southern and northern parts of the city. The estimated cost of the bridge is INR 250 crores.

The state government had asked to prepare the bridge as per standards set by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). The project manager said that the actual estimate would be prepared after August 15. The state government would bear 70 Percent  of expanses. The railway would be asked to pay 30 Percent  of the cost as the bridge would cross the railway line.

If railway failed to respond, then the state government would bear all the expanses. The elevated bridge would cross the railway line at Karvalho Nagar. One end of the proposed bridge would be connected with Afeem Kothi while another end would touch Shyam Palace. Service lanes at both sides would be constructed for traffic diversion. It would help people in Kanpur south in rainy season. Residents of Juhi, Kidwai Nagar, Naubasta and Govind Nagar would be benefited. At present, there are three bridges to connect Kanpur south to north. One is Govind Nagar bridge while second one is Juhi-Hamirpur Road railway under bridge and third one is double-lane Kidwai Nagar bridge.
