Rise in Domestic Natural Gas Production by 60% in Next 4 Years: A Reality or Myth?

India expecting to raise domestic production of natural gas up to 60% in next 4 years, by intensifying domestic exploration and production activities, developing shale gas policy framework & exploration of coal Bed Methane (CBM ), according to a projection in the annual report of the oil ministry.

Commercial exploration of CBM is under the cloud in India, till now. With decreasing exploration from pre NELP gas field like Panna-Mukta, Tapti, Hazira and Ravva due to natural ageing process & severe uncertaininties regarding exploration from new gas field like KG D6 basin; it is really uncertain whether India can achieve the target or it will end up like a myth.
