Government Planning to Open the Coal Sector for Commercial Mining

Coal secretary Anil Swarup on Tuesday signalled the government’s intent to take up commercial coal mining.

The commercial mining in coal sector may boost up the domestic coal production in the country. This may increase infrastructure development process and investment in the coal mining sector. The current slowdown in global coal mining sector and India’s ambitious target to reach 1.5 billion coal production by 2020 will bring foreign coal miners to invest and share their technology in domestic mining sector.  This may speed up the mining development process and improve mining efficiency. Also with the private player participation for commercial mining may increase the market competition in the sector. This may eventually help the end consumer in longer run.
