Government Speed Up Coal Auctioning Process to Boost Coal Supplies

The government will put on the block eight more mines after 10 mines are auctioned in the third phase, for which the process has already begun, a top official on Wednesday said.

To achieve 1.5 billion tonnes of domestic coal production the private sector has to achieve 0.5 billion tonnes by 2020. To speed up coal production and much needed fuel supply to the industries, government has fast track the auctioning process. This may improve coal availability scenario in the country and may generate large revenue for the government. The sector based auctioning may help the government to strike the right balance between coal requirement and availability for different sectors. Also this may intensify the coal mining in the country and may bring investment to the sector.
