The much-delayed project to build the ambitious eastern and western dedicated freight corridors has received a boost with the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approving a revised cost estimate for it

With the revision of project cost estimate to double, the eastern and western Dedicated Freight Corridor Project is expected to see a faster and better implementation. On the completion of the project by 2018, Indian Railways seems to witness a north bound growth benefiting the economy of India. Also, a range of benefits such as low transportation cost, increased commercial activity, and easy transport of materials seems to be materializing along with the project. However, for the timely completion, Indian Railways has to address the issues of land acquisition with utmost importance.
