Power Tariffs to Come Down in Maharashtra

MERC has asked state-owned discom Mahavitaran to buy power where generation cost is not more than Rs.2.53 per unit. Mahagenco averages around Rs.4.25

SNP Insight:

The order is a welcome move as it will bring down the power tariff to a large extent benefitting the end consumers. But, may hit the market sentiments of the power generation companies in the state. Hence, it would be difficult to project whether the tariffs would be cut down in the state with a significant quantum to satiate the end consumers or a middle path would be carved out.
