Coal India Planning to Boost Underground Coal Mining to Achieve 1 Billion Target

Coal India plans to incentivise underground mining and consider reopening six such closed mines as contribution from underground mines to total coal production has fallen to just 8%.

The financial assistance by CIL may encourage lot of domestic and foreign players to participate in underground coal mining. This may open opportunity for technically and financially proficient foreign companies to enter to the coal mining business. And it also present an opportunity for domestic mining companies to tie with foreign companies, which may help them to gain technical expertise for underground mining. All these developments may boost the coal production and assist in achieving 1 Billion coal production target by 2022.
