As the coal demand in India likely to rise by 15.62% from last fiscal year to this fiscal year. And expected domestic production short fall by 210 MTs may rise the coal import by 5% from last financial year. This may look unlikely that coal import will come down from 200MTs in FY 2014-15 to 160 MTs in FY 2015-16 as per government’s projection. This will put a question mark on the India’s future self-dependency on domestic coal production. So the government has to take necessary required steps to strengthen the coal mining and transportation infrastructure in the country to ramp up the coal production in coming years.
