Indian Railways Focusing on Electrification Projects: Opportunity for the Players

News 

Gujarat government had proposed Railway Ministry to include electrification of total five railway lines in year 2015-16 Railway Budget. In response to this, Railway Ministry has through a letter informed the state government that electrification of all five lines proposed has been approved.

Considering the benefits of rail electrification like low fuel cost, low maintenance, high ROR, reduced emissions and faster transportation, IR is taking initiatives for more rail electrification projects. This seems to provide huge opportunities in laying electric network, electric engine manufacturing and for contractors. With the successful implementation of the electrification projects in pipeline, India seems to achieve more than 50% of the rail network being electrified.
