Oil India's Target for first LNG Cargo from Mozambique by 2020: Implications for India

Oil India Ltd expects to receive the first cargo of liquefied natural gas from Mozambique's offshore Area 1 Block in in the first quarter of 2020, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

The ambitious  target of importing first LNG cargo from Mozambique by 2020 comes as a respite for the country struggling hard to meet its enormous energy needs. However the quantum of LNG that will be shipped to India depends on the due course of time. Given the proximity of Mozambique to India the supplies can be expected to be cheaper than the other LNG sources and thus can in turn provide long term fuel security to stalled Gas based Power Plants, Fertilizer units in future.
