Lag in Growth of Power may Hamper the Make in India Initiative

The country's manufacturing sector growth improved both in terms of month-on-month as well as yearly basis in August, an SBI research report said, adding that mining and electricity are still acting as a drag on the economic activity.

Rise in SBI composite index for manufacturing sector from 49.7 in July to 53.1 in August shows  the positive impact for economy and this seems to foster the Make in India Initiative. But lag in synchronous growth of power may hamper the process as prices may shoot up due to difference in supply and demand. This situation might improve by enhancing the financial health of the discom and transmission corridor.
