Declining Solar Tariffs: A Concern for Small Domestic Players

News:

Solar power tariffs in India are set to hit a new low with the tender for 500 MW of capacity offered under the national solar mission (NSM) in Andhra Pradesh receiving huge investor interest last week. In response to setting up 10 projects of 50 MW each, bids totalling around 5,500 MW were received.

SNP Insight:

Agressive bidding in the past few bids have seen a sharp decline in solar tariff, if the scenario persists solar might achieve the grid parity with convention sources of energy in the near future. However small domestic players are no where in race to install solar projects at such low tariffs and the market is turning out to be a playing field for only deep pocketed developers.
