Investments to Strengthen Backbone of Power Sector

Government is looking at an investment of around $50 billion (around Rs 3.3 lakh crore) in the transmission sector in the next five years, Power Minister Piyush Goyal said today.

With planned investment of $50 Billion in the sector govt is now focussing on strengthning the transmission system. The investment will help to enhance the transmission capability reducing congestion in the system, further competitive bidding in the sector will lead to enhanced competition amongst the developers, by providing the level playing field to private players and PGCIL. Also this investment will facilitate construction of green energy corridor which will be helpful in evacuating clean energy. The strengthening of the transmission system might help the govt to achieve it's target of providing "Power to All" by 2019.
