India Plans 11 New LNG terminal in 7 years : Big Boost for Energy Security

India plan for development of 11 LNG terminals in 7 years will add 70 MT import capacity addition in each year. It would be a big boost for India's energy mix in terms of LNG rising from recent share of 6.5% to around 15% by 2030. LNG being environmentally less polluter than coal, and can be a big source of power for both base and peak load, increasing LNG import capacity and augmenting domestic production would be a very positive move towards India’s clean energy Goal.

However heavy dependence upon import may impact national economy with increased current account deficit, for which government needs to be careful about.
