Right to electricity, an Ordeal for DISCOM'S?

DISCOM’S have been repeat offenders when it comes to power shedding and with this bill in place DISCOM’S will not be able to cover their losses by predefined power-cuts which are prevalent today. DISCOM’s with the help of law enforcement forces will need to become stringent to reduce their commercial losses, as opposed to the easy way of power shedding. State Govt’s need to honor the PPA’s as any change may lead to unviability of the project which impacts the DISCOM’s and ultimately the common masses. State Govt also needs to ensure that DISCOM’s are not deprived of the predefined subsidies on time for them to sustain without taking the help of power cuts. Above all, periodic tariff revision and non interferecnce of governement on electricity tariff for political motives holds the key for better financial health of DISCOM's.
