High spot electricity does not come as a surprise, with renewable not reaching its target and coal supply hampering thermal plants this was bound to happen. High spot electricity rate will lead to high bill books for state electricity boards or will result in power shedding. Govt’s decision on commercialization of coal mining comes as a welcome but the process needs to be fastened for optimum results. Govt also needs to ensure that there are ample railway rakes for better supply.

Stringent action needs to be taken on plants who are not stacking the required coal, DISCOM’s delaying payment to developers need to be punished and Govt needs to be strict with state Govts to provide the agreed subsidies to DISCOM’s on time otherwise there is no escape from this vicious circle.
