Maharashtra Discom’s dismay comes as no surprise as not only in Maharashtra, Discom’s of all the states except one or two states have been loss making bodies ever since their origination and central Govt’s scheme UDAY has not been of much help either. Discom’s incompetence with AT&C losses have resulted in this dire situation. To improve, Discom’s need to minimize transmission losses and become stringent in power bill collections. For a Discom to function properly state Govt’s need to pay the subsidies in time and honor the PPA’s, Govt also needs to revise power tariff where ever necessary so that the power projects remain viable otherwise the entire chain makes loss. Discom’s might resort to power shedding to cover their losses; Govt needs to keep an eye on that.
