Solar Auction Missing Bidders, Time to Rethink the Duty Hike?

Proposed imposition of 70% safeguard duty and additional anti-dumping duties have kept developers from bidding in the solar auctions as they fear their project viability. Homemade solar panels cost 25-30% more than the imported ones so developers prefer them. For a better turn-out at the auctions Govt needs to ensure that the agreements have the change of law clause with specific numbers if the increased safeguard and anti-dumping duties were to be levied. Instead of solely depending on Govt to hike the duties local manufactures should make their products economical and available in abundance if they are to attract the developers. Govt should fasten the decision on the duty hike or the set target of 100 GW will be severely hampered.
