Supply of Coal Discrimination based on ownership agitates Private Developers

<p><span style="font-size:9.0pt">Decision of Coal Ministry to <span style="color:black">accord high supply priority to state, central power producers have irked private producers. They agitated that coal should be supplied on a non-discrimination basis irrespective of ownership.</span></span></p> <p><span style="color:black; font-size:9pt">Country is experiencing coal shortage and having a cascading impact on power supplies. Instantiating reliable power supplies to end consumers have restrained government to do so. This decision of Ministry have triggered a level of insecurity among private producers. Discrimination based on ownership of assets may also put into question the sanctity of commercial contracts with CIL. This would lead to more stress for the bankers.</span></p> <p><span style="color:black; font-size:9pt">As coal contracts signed with private companies and under the Shakti (Scheme to Harness and Allocate Koyla (Coal) Transparently in India) auction scheme will not be compromised and is against the PM&rsquo;s stated policy of level playing field and Ease of doing business.</span></p> <p><span style="color:black; font-size:9pt">In competence to improve performance, efficiency &amp; cater surge rise in demand, Ministry must on priority supply coal to most efficient plants. So that with same coal we can produce more power.</span></p>
