Wavier of Levy of 70% Safeguard Duty on Solar Imports Fears Local Manufacturers

<p><span style="font-size:9.0pt">Standing Committee stand on non-imposition of 70% safeguard duty on import of solar equipment from China and Malaysia has made clear government&rsquo;s wistfulness to speed up the solar installation and protect interest of various stakeholders. Waiver of such duty would minimize the investor&rsquo;s risk and ensure that solar tariff does not peak instantly by 1-2 Rs/Unit. On the other hand local manufacturers will fear for non-competence with imported solar equipment due to economies of scale and market for domestic manufacturers will shrink. &nbsp;</span></p>
