40 GW of Solar Rooftop Targets seems Tough to Achieve

Government has set an ambitious plan to achive 175 GW of Renewable Installation till 2022, out of which 40 GW is to come out from Rooftop Segment. Many of market research agencies in its publications has stated that the target seems hard to achieve, as people are obstinate not to share available rooftop space. Commercial & Industrial establishment’s varying load requirement also does not match solar generation output. Rooftop are vested with Gross & Net Metering regulations, which allows post & pre adjustment respectively in electricity generated and used by them. Gross metering mechanism is more feasible as it allows consumers to inject directly into the grid irrespective of load usage, otherwise in net metering it becomes imperative to pump into the grid, for the power they donot use.

Government will have to find some alternate sources to find spaces for installation like floating solar rooftop farms else 40 GW through rooftop alone seems difficult.
