Domestic Solar Manufacturer's Interest likely to be Safeguarded From Solar Imports

<p><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Import dependence of Solar equipment has acutely risen to soar high level of more than 90%. Recent solar auctions held in pursuit of Renewable Energy Targets of 100 GW by 2022 does not have any domestic content requirement. Equipment thus required shall be imported from countries like china, USA and other countries. China reluctance for solar projects has also forced manufacturers to move to Indian Markets and dump solar in India at reduced prices.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:11pt">To mitigate dependence on Imports and safeguard interest of domestic developers, government must mull over for indigenous solar manufacturing, for larger MW scale based projects. Safeguard duty imposition of 25 per cent ad valorem in first year, 20 per cent ad valorem in the first half of second year and 15 per cent ad valorem subsequently, thus proposed by Directorate General of Trade Remedies is poised to safeguard domestic industry&#39;s ability to compete and make and sell the solar cells/ modules.</span></p>
