Government Reduces Manufacturing Linked Solar Tenders to Realize Parity Tariff

<p><span style="font-size:9.0pt">To spur solar manufacturing capacity in India, SECI had earlier this year floated 5 GW manufacturing tender linked with 10 GW power purchase agreement (PPA). Developers has raised concern on manufacturing part, stating that the tender compels them to enter a business which is not a field of expertise for them. And such essential requirement would increase the solar tariff, as indigenous solar equipment would fail to match economies of scale of imported solar equipment. Be apprehensive of such tweak, they has reduced manufacturing-linked solar tender to around 3 gigawatts.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:9pt">For boosting up domestic solar equipment manufacturing government has to link up subsidy with tenders, else it will curb down developers&rsquo; interest.</span></p>
