Solar Energy Capacity Targets Grappled with Issues and Uncertainties

<p><span style="font-size:9.0pt">Government estimates to achieve renewable energy targets comfortably by 2022. As per CEA, around 23 GW is current installed capacity of solar power in India, which is in line with planned trajectory. (MNRE) has planned a detailed trajectory so as to meet the target of 100 GW by 2022. </span></p> <p><span style="font-size:9pt">In amidst of solar capacity additions picking up, grappling issues like inadequate transmission capacities, absence of long-term PPA, Discoms reluctance to buy costly solar power, tedious regulatory clearances, uncertainty of GST and imposition of safeguard duty may dampen growth of solar industry in near future. Government must mull over these issues which are critical for development in the segment.</span></p>
