Developers raises an alarms on capping of solar tariffs

SECI has proposed to MNRE for capping of solar tariff to Rs. 2.5 per unit in the future solar auctions in anticipation of holding the solar tariff to the lower side. Developers have raised concern that government should not evaluate projects in different states with a collective parameter of Nationally capped tariff, as its will make projects unviable. They contended that solar tariffs are arrived at by considering change in module prices, currency risks and varied solar radiation, which vary across states. Though MNRE has allowed additional margin of 18 paise in case the safeguard duty is being factored in, but developers have opposed this move of SECI with agony.

Capping is likely to reduce participation of developers in upcoming solar auctions which will downgrade the pace of achieving ambitious solar capacities of 100 GW by 2020.
