<p>The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has issued an order on its own motion regarding the abolition of clean energy cess and introduction of goods and services tax (GST) compensation cess. The commission with exercise of its power under Section 79(1)(f) of the Electricity Act, 2003 has allowed/disallowed various expenditures claimed under change-in-law events from time to time by gencos and discoms. The commission has initiated this suo moto petition to assess the impact of abolition of clean energy cess and introduction of GST in the place of a host of indirect taxes and introduction of GST compensation cess effective from July 1, 2017.</p>
